Two birds with one stone

11.6.2014 Hit the road

The Finnish group headed to Lienz today, but we never learned how their tirp went, because we had a little easier day. We walked up to a nearby mountain to 1740 meters. The hike was short but the ascents were surprisingly steep. We had to have four short brakes to drink some water. Some swear words were spoken. When we reached Putzalm we had a coke and strudel (typical local apple pie). We learned that hütte means a refuge where you can stay the night and alms are farm houses that serve some drinks and little food. (For example Bonnerhütte / Putzalm)
Meet Jack

Steep hills on the way
We made friends with Jack. He was quite noisy at start, it seemed that he didn't exactly like visitors, but after we got to know each other we immediately made a lifelong friends. He begged for some strudel but we couldn't give it to him. He liked to chase the chickens of the farm and be petted. Aino fell in love with him, and some kisses were shared.

Aino wanted to continue up to the top of the mountain where a cross stood. Markus has told us that where there are big crosses on the top of the mountain, there usually are guest books. Gleb was too tired to continue so we came back down to Niederdorf. It took only a few hours to make the trip, so we even had a very full meal on the hotel Bachmann, where Markus has his practice. We helped the owner of the hotel to move some flowers around and had some ice cream as well.

The day was easy and short (ONLY eight hours) so we left back to Bruneck by train. It would have been nice to stay and wait the Finnish group (group ramshackle by their own words) to return but it would have taken too long.

12.6.2014 Now don't you come back

Toblachersee
We learned that the Finnish group's trip had gone well. Only thing we needed to be more accurate while describing the trip to Lienz to others was to tell them the name of the last place they can stop. After 30 kilometers there wasn't any place to stop 20 kilometers of the rest of the journey to Lienz.

The forbidden "biking" route
We on the other hand biked 16 km today to see two beautiful lakes. Not quite as clear watered than in Pragser Wildsee though. The other one called Toblachersee was floody and we had to be careful while biking around it. (Later we learned from Markus that it was prohibited to bike around the lake and we should have walked instead.)

Flood

We cycled calmly because it was the first time Aino got to decide the speed. The other lake named Dürrensee wasn't so fantastic but it was situated on a great place in front of the mountain "Piano". We ate there, Aino took cheese and vegetables and Gleb took only something to put on his bread... and two pieces of cake. The pieces of cakes one had cost only 3,5 euros and they were pretty large pieces so Gleb had to take two (Aino maybe took some bites from the chocolate cake piece or maybe ate half of it).

yummy!
The way back was once again a lovely downhill, so it didn't take long. Afterwards we wrote down the information about the route we just took and Aino finished some flyers while Gleb and Markus took a bet about which one of them would run cooper's test better. Markus hikes a lot and it's hard to stay with him while walking up the mountains, he has also played football when Gleb on the other hand plays Ice hockey. What do you think? Who gets better results?
